Roll Call for Senate Bill 88

Senate Bill 88-- Concerning the extension of state employee group benefits to domestic partners of state employees.
On Monday, May 18th Governor Bill Ritter signed into law Senate Bill 88 which expands health care benefits to state employed same-sex partners.

Colorado Family Action actively opposed this legislation during the 2009 Colorado Legislative Session because it attempts to elevate same-sex couples to the status of married couples by defining domestic partner as an eligible dependent of a state employee.

Some Colorado Legislators may have forgotten but it was less than three years ago that the people of Colorado rejected a similar measure (Referendum I) by a broad margin that would have legalized same-sex domestic partnerships. It was also at this time that a ballot initiative (Amendment 43) was passed that defined marriage decisively as the union of a man and a woman only in the Colorado Constitution.
